Dress up your Logo in style – May 2009 entries of Google Doodles

The trend of dressing up logos on different occasions and events is a valuable addition to creating brand identity on a different level. Companies, whether big or small, have been doing it to gratify their visitors and customers online and the response they get for that is surely immense. This trend of designing logos on different occasions and events has become so popular that in order to fulfill that need, logo design companies have started offering this service of redesigning already existed business logos for special occasions.

250th Anniversary of Kew Gardens Tuesday, May 5th, 2009
On May 25th, Google celebrated 250th Anniversary of the Royal Botanic Gardens generally referred to as Kew gardens. They are extensive gardens and botanical glasshouses between Richmond and Kew in southwest London, England. Created in 1759, the gardens celebrate their 250th anniversary in 2009.
Children’s Day (Kodomo no Hi) in Japan Tuesday, May 5th, 2009
Children’s Day is celebrated on various days around the world. In Japan, Children’s Day (Kodomo no Hi) is celebrated on May 5 every year and is a national holiday. The date was the date of the traditional Tango no Sekku (端午の節句) festival, originally commonly known as Boys’ Day, whereas Girl’s Day was celebrated separately on March 3. Later in 1948, they both have been merged to become one day i.e. Children’s Day. Google made a playful logo showing children sliding and enjoying in a park with flowers around.

Radio Day, officially known as Communications Workers’ Day in Russia or Radio and Television Day, is a commemoration of the development of radio in Russia. It takes place on May 7, the day in 1895 on which Alexander Popov successfully demonstrated his invention.
Rabindranath Tagore’s 148th Birthday Wednesday, May 6th, 2009
Google celebrated 148th birthday of Bengal’s poet, visual artist, playwright, novelist, educationist, social reformer, nationalist, business-manager and composer Rabindranath Tagore on May 6 by creating such a fine doodle in his honor.
Giro d’Italia Saturday, May 9th, 2009
The Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy), also simply known as The Giro, is a long distance road bicycle racing stage race for professional cyclists held over three weeks in May/early June in and around Italy. It is one of the three Grand Tours, and is part of the UCI World Ranking calendar. This year it started from 9–31 May from Venice and finishes in Rome.

Google celebrated Mother’s Day on May 9 by creating a soft, light Google doodle with its letter ‘L’ forming the flower vase with colorful flowers in it.
Norway National Day (Norwegian Constitution Day) Sunday, May 17th, 2009
The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May 17 in the year 1814. The constitution declared Norway to be an independent nation. The Norwegian Constitution Day is the National Day of Norway and is an official national holiday each year. So, Google gave its logo a Norwegian touch by creating cute Norwegians celebrating their National Day, holding drums and their national flag. This logo in my opinion is very cute and creative.
Missing Link Found Wednesday, May 20th, 2009
Google created a logo as soon as they got to know that a team of researchers unveiled an almost perfectly intact fossil of a 47 million-year-old primate. Researchers say that this represents the long-sought missing link between humans and apes.
Chen Jingrun’s 76th Birthday Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Chen Jingrun, famous Chinese mathematician who made significant contributions to number theory. Google celebrated his 76th birthday this year by designing a logo with its ‘l’ shown as piles of papers with the scientist’s glasses on top of it. Since he worked on the number theory, there are numbers shown as well.

60th Anniversary of Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany (Grundgesetz, GG) Saturday, May 23rd, 2009
Google created a doodle for The Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Grundgesetz für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland) which is the constitution of Germany. It was formally approved on May 8, 1949, and, with the signature of the Allies, came into effect on May 23, 1949, as the constitution of West Germany.

Google celebrated Jordan’s Independence Day on May 25 showing Jordan’s flag in their logo.
2009 UEFA Champions League Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
The UEFA Champions League (usually referred to as simply the Champions League or less frequently as the European Cup) is an annual football cup competition organized by UEFA since 1955 for the top football clubs in Europe. It is the most prestigious club trophy in European football. Google created a logo especially for the event with its font color changed to grass green with one of its O’s drawn as a football which is coming out of another ‘O’ which is drawn as the football stadium precisely.
